ART & SOUL: Hamptons

ART & SOUL: Hamptons is a weekend festival designed to highlight, showcase, and celebrate art created by influential and emerging Black and Brown artists living within the Hampton community, and beyond. The series of experimental events will encourage people to visit Southampton, NY to support, engage, and connect with artists of color, as well as supporting art and cultural organizations who are passionate about diversity in the arts. 


The weekend will consist of art exhibits, artist meet and greets, live music and entertainment, culinary experience, sipping experience, beauty and wellness lounges, soulful cuisine, art walk, film screening, supporting local Black-owned businesses, and learning about the Native American Shinnecock tribe.

2025 EXHIBITING ARTISTS

Shaunt'e Lewis

CEO, 3DAYS

An Indiana based illustrator, designer, and visual artist. In 2022, Lewis received the Nickle Plate Arts "2022 Artist of the Year" Award. She created artwork for Indy 500, NCAA, Meijer, Jiffy Lube, and Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site. Her artwork is colorful with bold lines and involves themes of self-identity, black culture, and female empowerment and representation.

Reynoir Lewis

Multi-Faceted Artist

Reynoir is a multi-faceted artist who believes in using materials that might otherwise be tossed away. Each of his clocks, each one unique, is made from reclaimed wood. Each design showcases his originality, style and passion for woodwork. Whether painted in a color or stained in various finishes, these clocks make unique and practical works or art.

Laura R. Gadson

Quilt, Fiber and Mixed Media Artist

Laura explores and often blends the worlds of quilting, felting, painting, collage and more as a result of her love affair with textiles and paper and a variety of materials. She is a graduate of the renowned Fiorello LaGuardia High School of Music and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the City College of New York

Suliman Onque

Founder, Target Tween

Suliman is a multi-faceted artist that creates paintings, portraits, murals, logos, graphic design, comic books, wearable art and NFT art. He created his own comic book Super Sketch painter in 2015 and 2016, and has created over 2,000 physical and digital art pieces. He was one of the "Black Lives Matter Muralist in Manufactures Village April 2020.

Idris Elba, whose grandfather fought in WW2, narrates this landmark series revealing the untold stories of soldiers of color in the war. By mixing war sequences with character portraits, this series restores the role of these soldiers and their units to their rightful place in the narrative of WW2 and reveals how these heroes inspired Civil Rights Movements in America and across the world.

This project is led by Indigenous artist Jeremy Dennis and serves as a communal art space based on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation. The family house features a residency program for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), art studio, library, along with hosting an array of art and history-based programs for tribe members and the broader local community.

 


ABOUT JEREMY DENNIS:

An award-winning contemporary fine art photographer who creates large-scale staged photographs that deal with conflicts and situations between Indigenous and non-Indigenous individuals. In his work, he explores indigenous identity, assimilation. He is an enrolled tribal member of the Shinnecock Indian Nation in Southampton, New York.
